We're paddling through #NationalRiversMonth by showing off our Bureau of Reclamation holdings featuring Kootenai River Falls in Libby, Montana and Hell Gate Dam on the Boise River.

Nothing says summertime like freshly harvested fruit! In 1943, this young farmer picked a bounty at his family's orchard and today is found in our Bureau of Reclamation Boise Project holdings. Happy summer!

#OTD in 1929 President Hoover issued the proclamation declaring the Boulder Canyon Project Act in effect. A copy can be found in Bureau of Reclamation holdings along with a lettercopy sent to the White House letting Hoover it was ready to be issued.

Today we’d like to recognize the work of some remarkable folks! This notebook was kept by the US Forest Service Intermountain region dispatcher in the summer of 1960 & remember, all that people-shuffling was done by telephone! #NationalWildlandFirefighterDay

Wishing you all a very happy 4th of July and hope you get to take in some great fireworks! From the Bureau of Reclamation, here we see a show at Grand Coulee Dam in 1950. Employees had pooled funds to host the show, shot from the dam roadway over the reservoir for all the guests to enjoy!

Oregon Caves National Monument turns 116 years old today! One of the highlights of the park is the impressive Oregon Caves Chateau. We like this April 1946 photo we found in our Bureau of Reclamation holdings.

Our hearts were broken with this weekend’s news of the fire destruction at the Grand Canyon NPS North Rim. While many iconic structures enjoyed by millions over the decades may have been lost, they live on in our holdings!

In one case it was an educational angle. Others provide history lessons. And yet in others – pure fantastical entertainment. In this blog we explore examples of plays put on by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, fragments of which can be found in our holdings! text-message.blogs.archives.gov/2025/06/05/pir…

Sometimes the federal records we hold show us a side of workers not often captured - case in point, Dr. Virgil Milo Pinkley's recipes! Learn more in this Text Message blog entry about the records and how we actually made of his recipes last winter! text-message.blogs.archives.gov/2025/06/10/doc…
