The urge to alt-tab when the LLM is generating

Elite college syndrome

Feels like all of internet breaking under the weight of the compute pressure caused by LLMs. So many services randomly down all the time, from startups to large cos that we’ve traditionally thought of as reliable infrastructure.

It’s always been astounding to me that becoming the mayor of a major city (where your most important job is managing the budget) requires no equivalent experience managing the P&L of a private company.

If you want to fix a broken system, you have to pull money OUT, not put more money IN. If you put more money IN, the system interprets it as a reward and uses the money to become even more broken. We get this for businesses. We forget it for nonprofits and governments. 🤔

Tbh you won’t hear a better endorsement for a model’s coding capabilities than an engineers disdain for it because “it does too much”.
