It is with a sense of deep sadness and profound loss that Denise’s family announce her passing at dawn on the 22 Jan 2022. Denise passed peacefully and without pain surrounded by her children Shae, Hayley and Paul and her beloved granddaughter Stella Mae; as she wanted 1/9

Denise’s tireless advocacy for social justice, disability reform, dying with dignity and labour movement ideals will be a loss to the political landscape. It was important to Denise that others continue the campaigns that meant so much to her & other like-minded souls. 2/9

Denise gained much comfort from her ‘twitter family’, as she called you. She gained much joy from her interactions here and would want you to know that. Her life purpose was the pursuit of progressive policies and social justice for those disempowered by the system. 3/9

Denise believed that, in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, 'the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members'. She would want this to be a guiding principle for a more compassionate and people-centred politics moving forward. 4/9

Gandhi she was not! But it is in the perfectibility of the human condition that we can aspire to greater heights of civilisation, humanity and society. We can always try to be better humans. This is what Denise’s children are taking from the experience of Denni’s life. 5/9

In Denise’s life reflections she identified through all her challenges and tribulations of life, that in the end, she firmly believed ‘all that matters, in the moment, is love’. Because moments is all we have in the final analysis. 6/9

A series of moments make up our all too brief journey through this vale of tears. If we can remember that, in the moment, all that really matters is the love we leave others, we will honour Denise and ourselves. In this way, we will have done our best. 7/9
