Opened OTD 1957 … The Alpha Cinema - Rathcoole . Much like the Lido it opened in probably not the best era for movie going . It would close in 1972. .

21 years ago today, an arson attack left North Street Arcade in ruins. Despite numerous redevelopment proposals, it remains derelict to this day. How much longer can we allow these historic buildings to deteriorate, and what will it take to finally save our built heritage...

So, it looks like there is a tiny bit of movement...: ".. Deloitte will draft a spec for the commissioning of a 'Regen & Planning Framework' for Tribeca area... the basis for statutory intervention... purchase/vesting of the land in part or fully...steps for viable regen scheme"

What to do with a former courthouse? There are many to learn from. Help us map them - here's our first go. #SaveCrumlinRoadCourthouse

I'm quoted in this article emphasising the need for the public to protest with Donard Mountain on 10 May in Newcastle. My principal concern is the ecological integrity of Slieve Donard but there is no doubt that this is also an outrageous waste of money.

The list features well known and loved buildings across the country. 10% of listed buildings in Northern Ireland are now at risk and there are now over 1100 buildings on the at risk register.

Historic building grants for private owners leave much to be desired, VAT on historic building repairs is unjust and the reluctance from Government Departments and Councils to use enforcement powers all contribute to this stasis. There is neither carrot nor stick at present.

Wonderful news as the National Trust rejects the fundamentally unsustainable Mourne Gateway/Gondola Project, saving the public & future generations millions. How the project advanced this far without the landowner’s support should be a matter for NIAO. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/environme…

REVEALED: Castlebrooke, the firm behind £500m Tribeca scheme, has withdrawn several major applications linked to the scheme for renewal of permission 👇 m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/north…

John Mulgrew (@newsmulg) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Basically, Castlebrooke first submitted early plans almost a decade ago. It was granted permission for various elements in 2020. But almost no work began. Fresh renewal applications for most of the scheme were submitted last year. But they have now been withdrawn. 1/2

It's time for Castlebrooke to work with the people of this city & BCC. The Assembly Rooms need to come into public ownership and the rest of the site needs broken down into smaller sections to be redeveloped. As Greens we will continue to fight for Belfast City Centre.
