Here's an easy, visual introduction to David Deutsch's The Beginning of Infinity. One hour on the cosmic significance of knowledge and people, using my lovely homemade lightboard!✨

My AGI discussion group meets every week. We've talked about: Finite vs. Infinite Abilities. A raven might be capable of using some tools, but humans can learn to use any of an infinity of tools, most of which haven't been invented yet. Randomness. Is it useful, or even

Constraints constrain. Your efforts can’t flow one way, so must flow another. If that area is full of treasure, the constraints were good. If not, then they were bad. Without any constraints, you’re lost in a trashforest, where treasures are hard to find.

In research, I bounce around a lot, and sometimes lose track of the big picture. On some days, like today, I go back and map out the last few months of my thinking:

Elon Musk There are many ways to stick atoms together. Most won't launch themselves into orbit and land gently on a tower. SpaceX's way of putting atoms together did do those things. It took life - and people - to find that way. Without them, the cosmos would remain rocketless.
