"McGill’s primary obligation to its students is to provide a safe and conducive learning environment ... How can racialized students feel secure in an environment where a police force that is proven to engage in racist practices is welcomed?" thetribune.ca/opinion/mcgill…

Don’t believe the hype coming from the ‘left’ and ‘right’ these days. Caging isn’t care. Caging isn’t compassionate. Caging if how we disappear people from view, abandon them, and expose them to harm. We don’t need such benevolence. We need to #BuildCommunitiesNotCages.

1 in every 3 people killed by a stranger is killed by a police officer. So you might think the biggest threat to your life is some random shooter or gang. But the one organized group that is most likely to shoot and kill you is the police, and it’s not even close.

Patrice Roy and the SPVM's Patrick Renaud talking about how organized crime ain't what it used to be. "Il n'y a plus de respect." "'C'est le crime désorganisé." "C'est chacun pour soi." You can find people saying this in every decade since the 1960s. This isn't about crime.

“In the last few weeks, our students have been arrested, detained, and even physically brutalized, all while conducting non-violent political demonstrations. We deserve to come to campus to learn and to have open dialogue without fearing for our safety.” mcgilldaily.com/2024/11/concor…

Tomorrow, the SPVM will present its 2025 budget request to the city finance committee. We invite Montréalers to come tell city council that public funds should be used to meet their needs, not violate their rights.

The Montreal police are projected to go over budget this year by $48 million. They do this EVERY year. In the five previous years, they've gone over budget by an average of $41 million per year. No other major police force comes CLOSE.

After a season of incredible police violence against Palestine solidarity protests, both the SPVM chief and the Police Brotherhood president are either demanding (Francoeur) or suggesting (Dagher) the police need more power.

The SPVM sent dozens of cops to protect the public discussion of their budget today. The city decided that only eight citizens are allowed to come inside.

“Evidence isn’t what matters to this government. Otherwise, supervised consumption sites wouldn’t be legislated to close, and we’d address the real threat — toxic drugs — and implement the safety recommendations espoused by the expert reviews.”

At the Public consultation on homelessness and social cohabitation in Mtl. I listed my concerns of a lack of safe space for Indigenous people and my fear that if nothing is done, people will die. This am, the SPVM confirmed the death of an Indigenous man in Atwater mall🤬

In the wake of the SPVM killing two more of our neighbours, a lot of people are reviving the demand for police body cams. I know it seems like a solution, but it's absolutely not. 1/6
