Too many people want you to share your story just so they can judge and criticize it. Your story matters but that doesn’t mean everyone has the right to hear it.

We don’t have to show how ‘damaged’ a survivor will be because of a perpetrator’s crimes. We have to show how dangerous a perpetrator is because of their crimes. Understand the seriousness of the crime - don’t make it contingent on the survivor.

A trait of an abuser not often discussed? Someone that thinks they know what is best for everyone. Someone that thinks they know better than everyone else what others ‘should’ do. Too often these people find their way into the healing/guru/coach world where they can manipulate.

People always say, “it’s a family thing” as if it’s not that serious - but it should be the opposite. Someone that would harm their own family member should show just how very dangerous they actually are.

You weren’t hurt so you could help others. You were hurt because a perpetrator chose to harm. If you decide to advocate that’s great, but the whole point of ‘this doesn’t define you’ is for it not to define you. Live the life you want to live. You don’t owe anyone anything.💞

We’ve lost so many survivors of abuse, and specifically sexual violence, to suicide and so many struggle with ideation. While they do need mental health support, we’re not really helping if we don’t also address the external societal failures leading to their current situation.
