Attending #BIIGLE user meeting to understand the new features available for annotating #deepsea #benthic creatures after working with this program for over 5 years. Incredible work being done to make annotating large volumes of imagery quicker and more accurate.

Zoom in & you’ll see that the deep sea is recognised as a critical knowledge gap 🔎! Fantastic to see this acknowledged at the global level & thus identified as a priority for the remainder of the UN Ocean Decade!

The #Orkney adventure begins! 🚢 I will be presenting at the Environmental Interactions of Marine Renewables conference next week. Excited to talk about how to use trait-based analysis to monitor the impact of offshore wind farms on #benthicecosystems.

Day 2: EIMR2024 Interesting to hear about the different tools being developed to understand #ecosystem change. It seems it is time to address potential impacts on a cumulative scale as we need to provide data in short time frame to be useful during the consenting process.

An amazing and thought provoking conference EIMR2024 . Met so many great people, participated in my first Ceilidh FΛRΛ, and got to talk about the importance of seabed ecosystems and how best to monitor them. Goodbye Orkney, I can’t wait to come back!

Saw it this morning live! Well done, @Macomabalthica. Made a great point about shifting distributions of species in response to climate change and how this could change the target fisheries species.

Day 1 of CDT SuMMeR school featured presentations on #offshorerenewableenergy. To see that my PhD project fell within a key evidence gap for OWF ‘#benthicecosystem-habitat loss’ was encouraging as it shows that our work is relevant to needs identified by the sector.

Day 2 of CDT SuMMeR school brought thought provoking presentations on marine licensing and planning from Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru | Natural Resources Wales, Dr Ellie Ford from Defra UK, and the Marine Management Organisation. The following panel discussion provided a great learning experience to understand careers in civil service.

Great to hear updates about the scientific findings of the ECOWind projects and learn about how they could be used to inform policy objectives. I presented a poster highlighting how we plan to use trait-based approaches to document ecosystem change within OWF. CDT SuMMeR
