I spent some time reviewing the abstracts for the 15 NSF SaTC awards identified as "Woke DEI" grants by Senate Commerce Republicans. Taken on their own terms, I find the committee's determination of these grants to be incorrect in 8 of the cases (53% error rate).

Over the last five years, I have been proud to curate and lead a fantastic group of Ph.D. students from six different countries, including US. I believed that USA was the only country where this was possible. It is a shame that we are losing that special status with each day.

1/3 The US didn’t end up leading the world in computing by luck. It happened because it made long-term, public investments in basic research, especially through NSF. That’s what created the technology that today’s companies are built on.
