In Italy we always use NRP+HOPE for DCD livers and have the lowest incidence of ITBL. This is the first #DCD #liver in my series of >100 cases, that needed #retransplantation. It was recovered abroad without NRP and, despite HOPE, it developed massive ITBL in a few months.

I was surprised to discover, while exploring Statzl's late ‘60s masterpiece, that the combined use of #NRP and #MP for #DCD #liver #transplants was already documented using a technique remarkably similar to Italy's current national protocol. Quasi nani super gigantum humeros...

#Liver #transplant: the recipient had a TIPS. While dissecting the hilum, I found complete PV thrombosis, with the TIPS placed in a big varix next to the PV. Good flow but thin vessel walls fused with the TIPS. What would you have done? I performed the anastomosis on the TIPS.

Deceased donor liver utilisation & assessment, consensus guidelines from ELITA including practical considerations/recommendations on: 🚧 adverse outcomes to be used to define suitability for #transplantation with conventional SCS alone ⚖️ donor & graft factors to define liver
