Always-on nuclear plants are essential to powering continued growth in the Carolinas. Here's a look from StarNewsOnline at the Brunswick plant through the years.

Stormy weather and high winds moving through the Carolinas. As of 9:30 am, about 35K Duke Energy customers are w/o power in Western #NC and Upstate #SC. Crews are working to restore power. Expect windy conditions to move east over the next few hours. Outage? Text OUT to 57801

Crews working to restore Duke Energy outages from #Chantal As of 0830, ~16k cust out at ~300 outage locations in Alamance, Orange, Chatham, Durham and Person Counties. Scattered elsewhere. In some areas, local flooding may complicate restoration until safe to complete work.


.Duke Energy crews continue restoring power in the wake of Chantal. In some areas, high water has made restoration more challenging. This power line in Moore County is damaged but work could not proceed until water levels receded. Similar scenes in other parts of Central NC.

Historic flooding along the Haw River has resulted in downed Duke Energy power lines and a broken pole from river debris at the Collins Bridge in Saxapahaw, #NC (Alamance County) Tree crews are removing trees around the pole so that crews can make repairs. #Chantal #ncwx

Working both sides of a swollen Haw River to retrieve and repair a line that was knocked into the water after floating tree debris took out a Duke Energy pole and line spanning the river. Crews are working into the evening to repair the line which serves >2,500 cust. in the area.
