Maybe! But in ancient Rome, 1. Foreign women and slaves were not protected. 2. Punishing rapists was seen as a way to protect the honor of the "paterfamilias", or (male) head of family––not so much to protect women themselves. Even "trad" masculinity was pretty bad for women
