Thanks Bishal - we were disappointed that despite efforts to ⬇️ EOL systemic therapy use for pts w/ #cancer, we have simply seen a shift to pricier therapies. Need to study whether immunotherapy improves outcomes in sickest pts, but am dubious. JAMA Oncology

Congrats Michael Leapman - we are so fortunate to have you as a member of our Yale COPPER Center #cancer outcomes community!

Kudos to Michael Leapman & team for their recent study highlighting carbon footprint of #prostatecancer care: 100K fewer prostate biopsies would avoid 8.1 million kg CO2e, (=4.1m liters of gasoline). A new paradigm for #healthcare overuse & downstream impact. Yale Cancer Center Yale School of Medicine

Honored to visit the MD Anderson Cancer Center #Cancer Prevention & Control team for Grand Rounds today, and talk about how to measure - and accelerate - progress against cancer. We've got this!

*NEW STUDY, 🧵: Immunotherapy drugs have revolutionized #lungcancer care. Yet its unclear if older patients in clinical practice benefit. Led by terrific student (now Penn Medicine intern) Teja Voruganti, we took a look bit.ly/3HBqBzG (1/n)

When Yale Cancer Center Yale Surgery and Yale COPPER Center support incredible trainees (and lucky mentors)… Jasmine Khubchandani, MD leading an extraordinary #CBPR team to better understand Life After Mastectomy for women with breast cancer.

** NEW JAMA Oncology editorial on #cancer trial diversity w/rising 🌟 Tanvee Varma, MD & Jennifer E. Miller: We show the *definition* of adequate representation has profound impact on accrual goals. Need clear guidance & comprehensive strategy to ➡️ #healthequity bit.ly/43lbbIz

👏 👏 Elizabeth Berger making all of us YaleBreastCancer Yale Surgery so proud with her podium ASBrS presentation 👩🏫 on high rates of screening mammography in women > 67 and low value care The definition of a talented surgeon-scientist, mentor and friend. ❤️

*NEW Tyan et al study: >10% of oncologists now work in Private Equity owned clinics. This is not an anomaly! PE-backed health care is now truly cradle to grave in the US. In our commentary, Isabel Ostrer, FJ Crosson & I discuss: bit.ly/3VovocK #medtwitter *THREAD: (1/n)

*New study led by Dr. Prasanna Ananth: Bereaved parents shared end of life priorities for their children. They are nuanced, yet measurable. Underscores need for new approach: can't apply *adult* EOL metrics to kids! bit.ly/42E7MUr #HPM #PalliativeCare JAMA Network Open

Dr Cary Gross talk on solutions to #cancerscreening disparities: "We can't solve problems using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." -Einstein "Since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system.” -MLK #ASCO23

Thx Jyoti Madhusoodanan for highlighting our work, and contextualizing the critical gaps in evidence hampering our ability to care for older patients with #cancer. Our research ecosytem must shift focus to real-world pts, rather than just enrolling youngest/healthiest subset. Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) #GeriOnc

Congrats Kerin Adelson, MD, MHCDS, Cary Gross, & team on new work showing substantial variation across treatment centers in use of EOL #cancer therapy. To what degree do financial incentives drive this overuse?

At 7:30pm on Yale Cancer Answers, cancer epidemiologist Dr. Maureen Canavan discusses ways to evaluate #quality metrics for #cancer care, especially when providing end-of-life care.
