Returned from TORUS yesterday, bringing an end to a long stretch of field work (including PERiLS). Great storms and great work, but absolutely exhausting. Never doing field work again - until 6 months from now when I forget my exhaustion and sign on for PERiLS year 2.

My wife just returned from a conference with the plague. Wish me luck, SLS attendees. I’ll be the one in the hazmat suit.

Kicking off Thursday morning of #30SLS talking about the complex evolution of a mesovortex in an idealized simulation of a high shear, low CAPE QLCS. I can't promise there won't be math, but it's minimal.

Anytime I sit down to work on papers, I feel like one of two things happens: either I write multiple pages in one sitting relatively quickly or I write a single paragraph excruciating slowly.

Very spotty wintry conditions this morning with the thundersleet. Everything fine in Norman except on the far north end (my neighborhood is a slip-and-slide).

Since long-range severe wx forecasting is all the rage right now, I figured I'd try my hand at it. The red circled region is where I expect a hot spot of severe wx to develop in late April. Please kindly ignore the second image. Nothing to see there.

There really needs to be a radar placed in Northern MO (Kirksville). Every one of the 4 closest WSR-88Ds has a beam height over 4 km in that area. Days like today are difficult enough without storms forming in/moving through areas with poor low-level coverage.

Changed my wife’s spectacularly blown out tire on I-35 at 5:30 this morning only for the spare go flat as soon as the weight of the car was on it. So yeah, good day so far 🙃
