This is an amazing retrospective/future paper about #SQLite by Jignesh Patel + Wisconsin DB Group (@wiscdb.bsky.social) students + SQLite authors D. Richard Hipp. They show how to optimize SQLite internals to improve analytical query execution. #VLDB2022 #VLDB22

Check out our VLDB'22 paper on optimizing 2PC in a cloud-native database. Cornus reduces 2PC latency and eliminates blocking by leveraging the unique architectural features of storage disaggregation. vldb.org/pvldb/vol16/p3… (w/ Phil Bernstein and Mahesh Balakrishnan)

Congrats to Hangdong Zhao on successfully defending his thesis on join algorithms for real-world queries! He’s been a superstar in our group, winning the PODS 2025 Best Paper and UW–Madison Computer Sciences's Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award. Next stop: Microsoft Gray Systems Lab!

Congrats to Elena Milkai on defending her thesis on real-time transactional analytics! One of her projects, HERMES (VLDB 2025), enables data consolidation across transactional and analytical engines without system changes. After grad, she’s headed to Salesforce’s DB team!
