We’re halfway through our list of docs, and it’s been fantastic to hear what else you’re watching whilst at home! In keeping with the animation theme, Ryan (2004) is an Oscar-winning short documentary renowned for it’s physical representation of mental illness.

Today’s rec is The Thin Blue Line (1988), an investigation into a wrongly accused death row criminal who served twelve years in prison before his release.

Knock Down the House (2019) tells the story of politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the grassroots campaign that supported her and other unlikely candidates in running for Congress.

Today’s doc, The Act of Killing (2012), presents audiences with reenactments of the 1965-1966 Indonesian killings and explores their lasting social impact.

In today’s doc, The Arbor (2010), we’re introduced to playwright Andrea Dunbar and her experiences growing up in Bradford’s housing projects.

Blurring the lines between fact and fiction, Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) features graffiti artist Banksy as he talks through the rise of street art phenomenon ‘Mr Brainwash’.

How to Survive a Plague (2012) pulls together archive footage to walk audiences through the early years of the AIDs crisis and the efforts of various activist groups at the time.

Nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards, I Am Not Your Negro (2016) explores the history of racism in the US through the lens of various black civil rights leaders.

Buena Vista Social Club (1999) documents the creation of an ensemble of legendary Cuban musicians to produce an album of the same name.
