Short extract from my chapter on Operation Exodus. Dennis Griffiths was a Rear Gunner with a Pathfinder squadron. On the 8th of May he had gone out to celebrate the announcement of the German surrender. 1/

WHW-Highland IC Euan Williamson Wasted Degrees Poppyscotland This is a fantastic memorial for a very brave man! My wife and I are driving to St Valery and will be honoured to carry some of this beer for the commemoration event! Will count them in the car and count them out! 😉

On 4th June, 1940 the evacuation at Dunkirk ended but the 51st Highland Division was still in France. On the 5th of June the Germans launched an attack on the area of Franleu held by the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

Normandy, 6th June 1940. My great grandfather John Conway is captured along with most of the 7th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders after a battle at the French village of Franleu. The first two photos *might* possibly show some of those men.

Long shot but does anyone know where I might be able to watch a documentary called “Satan at his best” about Allied POWs in Auschwitz? It’s not online or on dvd as far as I can tell. IWM has a copy but not easy to pop in for a a visit from Aberdeenshire!
