Our National Day of Action featured WCM postdoc and Bargaining Committee member Caitlin Williams. She spoke out against federal funding cuts, and shared how NIH diversity grants make academia more inclusive and equitable. Check out the video here: youtu.be/FS-7Be_zBGs

Postdocs turned out in numbers to the rally. More than a year since we voted to form our union, we rallied with hundreds of postdocs against Weill Cornell Medicine's refusal to agree to a fair contract - one that safeguards our appointments, workplace rights, and economic well-being.

“I'm fighting to bring my child into a world where academia is a sustainable career for everybody. By agreeing to a fair contract Weill Cornell Medicine can live up to its founding principles... and show that they actually think diversity is a driver of success." -Chelsea Crooks, PhD

“We have uprooted our lives, left our families, and made significant personal sacrifices to pursue science at Weill Cornell Medicine… With attacks on immigrants increasing, the last thing we need is an additional layer of precarity placed on our shoulders.” -Cecilia Lira

"The least Weill Cornell Medicine can do is to commit to not increasing rents arbitrarily every year and unreasonably add to the immense financial burden we’re all already under.“ -Krithika Karthigeyan

“Postdocs need comprehensive childcare supplements to help us make ends meet so that we can continue to make WCM one of the top research institutes in the country.” -Caitlin Williams

At the end of our Rally for Equity, participants raised their hands in support a strike authorization vote if Weill Cornell Medicine does not make sufficient progress towards a fair agreement in our next bargaining session.

Senior Researches Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai are taking a stand with an upcoming Election Day to form a union and fight for a better working conditions. Go Researchers Organizing Committee at Sinai ✊

“We’ll be rallying on April 8 to defend the federal funding that makes research at Weill Cornell Medicine possible. Meanwhile, we’re preparing to authorize a strike because WCM wants the ability to fire international workers at will. We will not back down.”
