#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion has been celebrated as #Juneteenth ā a combination of āJuneā & ā19thā ā for over 150 years.

For those who say āIllegal is illegal.ā On this Juneteenth, remember: slavery was once legal. Harboring a fugitive enslaved person? Illegal. Black freedom? Illegal. āIllegal is illegalā has always been used to defend injustice. Legality ā morality. Justice calls us higher.
