Delighted that this work starting with a local TB outbreak and probing the role of an ancestral Mtb variant in dissemination is now out online, led by Joe Saelens, Mollie I. Sweeney PhD, and Gopi Viswanathan. Long collaboration with sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Lee’s paper is finally out! A tour de force characterization of a Chlamydia protein that repurposes a regulator of F-actin to do something it doesn’t normally do: breakdown epithelial cell junctions. cell.com/cell-host-micr…

Our latest cellular GWAS paper Cell Genomics reveals a cation channel (MCOLN2) serves as a critical restriction factor for replication of #Salmonella Typhi by Mg2+ deprivation. A thread that goes back 17 years (my youngest student was 7 years old!) 1/10 dlvr.it/SlzYQz

All NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports editors have resigned over the high publication fee, and are starting a new non-profit journal imaging-neuroscience.org This comes with great regret, and a huge amount of thought and discussion- please read announcement to get more details.

Wow--- "We also add 119 million base pairs of euchromatic polymorphic sequences and 1,115 gene duplications relative to the existing reference GRCh38"

Our new work in ⁦nature⁩ to explain how retrotransposons synthesize the 2nd-strand DNA by a circularization process. Story: made some cool findings (we thought) -> actually scooped 40-yr ago by textbook knowledge -> textbook appear to be incorrect. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Happy to share our @naturepaper on how past pathogen exposure, human genetics and evolutionary factors (eg Neanderthal introgression) affect population differences in immune responses to SARS-CoV-2. Led by Yann Aquino Maxime ROTIVAL and many others! (1/5) nature.com/articles/s4158…

Our latest preprint shows that how strongly a bacterial effector activates its host target is critical: “A single amino acid in the Salmonella effector SarA/SteE triggers supraphysiological activation of STAT3 for anti-inflammatory target gene expression” doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

It's a pity that All of Us used UMAP to visualize ancestry variation in their new marker paper, out today in Nature. The UMAP algorithm, by design, exaggerates the distinctiveness of the most frequent ancestries, a message that can be misinterpreted by the public.
