Ryanair - Flying as a disabled person always comes with extra planning, a cloud of anxiety and worry that your wheelchair / scooter will come back working / in one piece, but yesterday when travelling home from Krakow, I’ve endured one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had

I am left feeling humiliated, deflated and traumatised. After travelling from London to Krakow with my mobility scooter on Saturday, going through all the equipment and battery checks with no problems at all (as I regularly do) , I was almost prevented flying back home yesterday

I was told aggressively by a member of your staff (who refused to give their name) that I couldn’t fly home unless my spare scooter battery (which costs almost £500) was left left in Krakow and ‘destroyed’…

The panic of being told that an essential piece of equipment would have to be destroyed (for no reason, given I was within your regulations and guidelines) & then the realisation that I could be left stranded in Poland & not get home for my birthday was incredibly distressing

In addition to the above, the way I was spoken to and treated yesterday was absolutely disgusting. The lack of care, empathy and sheer professionalism shown by a member of your staff was staggering and I am shaking writing this right now. It is unacceptable.

On top of being spoken to like a criminal, belittled & disregarded, your member of staff seemed to think it was appropriate to put her hands on my scooter, forcibly grabbing which could’ve led to damage my scooter, or injury to me if it wasn’t for my partner standing between us

It’s an outrage that although the guidelines on your website were clearly followed, I was still not permitted to fly with one of my batteries. A life line for me. My legs. Something I rely on everyday to get around as a non ambulant person. This has been nothing but traumatising

I had to rely on a kind passenger flying with another airline to a different London airport (who watched in horror as this all unfolded) to take my battery in their hand luggage so that my battery wasn’t taken away and destroyed. Thankfully, we picked this up late last night

It is absolutely exhausting to have to constantly fight for your rights as a disabled person, and today highlighted yet another reason why many disabled people choose to avoid flying. Above is just a fraction of what I went through yesterday at the hands of Ryanair and…

I’d appreciate being put through to a senior member of staff to log my complaint in full rather than the online form. There are a number of changes that must happen so that no other disabled person goes through what I went through yesterday. I look forward to discussing further.
