Working on an article about the INTL APIs and taking quite some pleasure in the fact that Dutch formatting will happily change "98765.43" to "$99K" as narrow formatting but German formatting does not shorter than "98.765 €". Culture, encoded in APIs.

I agree with Devon Govett and I would add that this is doubly true for infrastructure software. The VC treadmill promotes new features and flashy announcements over stability, reliability and long-term compatibility.
