Idukki district exploration pilot survey. The people of Nedumkandam walked the team through local lores, sacred spots, and personal memories as we began the survey in Chottupara. Dolmen fragments, menhirs, evidence of urn burials and pottery were located and documented.

Abdulla Mansoor (14) has vivid memories of the urn burial dug out four years ago from the pathway to his house. Mansoor was only nine years old then. When he spoke about the urns and it’s history we were surprised. He had learnt from his teachers of such ancestral practices.

Prof. PJ Cherian, Director of Pattanam Excavations and the PAMA Research Institute, will be participating in the global workshop on Early Historic South India, from October 18th to 21st at the University of Bonn, Germany.

Professor P J Cherian will deliver a talk on the roles of the state, market, and religions revealed through the material evidence from Pattanam and various literary sources at the workshop in University of Bonn, Germany.

Pits, pots and antiquities of Pattanam Salvage archaeology has been a primary project of PAMA. Pattanam is a thickly populated archaeological site. This demands pits for tanks, pits for pipes and pits construction activities etc...

Often these pits surface ancient pottery, beads and other artefacts. These materials are carefully collected and recorded. Their context is documented where possible and stored safely. If you are digging a pit in Pattanam you can count on us to lend you a hand.

Congratulations to Syed Maheen on getting admitted into the Erasmus Mundus Masters Programme. He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University and came straight to PAMA. He was our first intern this year. We are all proud of him and wish him the very best.
