The new Department of Finance narrative against the reinstatement of the 9% VAT rate for food-led businesses claims that easing inflation will lead to increased consumer spending in restaurants, pubs and cafés in the coming months. [See below]. This argument against VAT9 ignores

Maybe the government should consider saving the Hospitality & Toursim industry. Closures throughout the country & mass job losses reduce the VAT to 9% 🤷‍♂️ rather than handouts to RTE of €225m next year, €240m in 2026, and €260m in 2027 🤦‍♂️
