Over the next few days, we'll be explaining why UCLA’s partnership with hospitals that are subject to discriminatory oversight is dangerous, unethical, and betrays UC (& human) values 👉👉👉

These discriminatory hospitals are common & are forced to follow restrictive directives that limit crucial components of healthcare, regardless of the opinions of the doctors, residents, and nurses 🤯 2/

What are these restrictive directives you ask? Can't you just pick a different hospital? Unfortunately, not usually, no. 3/

How much does this really affect healthcare you ask? A lot. In a terrifying and life-threatening way. Here are just a few examples. 4/

Do the effects of restrictive and/or compromised healthcare reach far beyond the immediate effects to harm women’s academic, economic, & professional prospects? You bet. Do these policies particularly affect specific groups? You bet. 5/

What about members of the LGBTQ+ community? Is this also discriminatory & harmful & dangerous to them? You bet. 6/

And! These policies are particularly terrifying in light of the ongoing maternal healthcare crisis happening in this country (something you can learn more about by watching Birthright War Story which is free on Kanopy for most students) 7/

Okay, so this is all awful. What's the connection to UC? Well, it's pretty clear that these hospitals don't seem to be following guidelines or acting in accordance with UC values... In fact, one could go so far as to say they are directly & severely betraying those values. 8/

But, it turns out that the UC system (besides UCSF, which divested in 2019) partners with these hospitals. Lots of these hospitals! Meaning they send trainees & patients to receive discriminatory, negligent, and dangerous healthcare. FAQs 👇 9/
