This is moral leadership. Kol hakavod to our rabbinic colleagues.

As we celebrate Pesach, we know -- as our teacher Rabbi Toba Spitzer wisely says in this article -- 'Jewish liberation is bound up with Palestinian liberation...we want freedom for all.'

We should be very clear: white Christian nationalists like Feucht use Israel to advance their extremist, antisemitic, and bigoted worldview. And it’s deeply dangerous for Jews, Israel’s long-term safety, and anyone who believes in inclusive democracy.

A note on the difference in discourse in the US & Israel: In Israel, the families of hostages (incl Hersh's parents per below) are calling for a deal & protesting a government that is dragging its feet & a prime minister who can't even be bothered to meet with the families. (1/4)

I’m really sick of media & viral social media posts painting the Jewish community in a false binary: pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian.

The vast majority of American Jews support Israel (but not necessarily its government) AND believe in Palestinian humanity & self-determination.

Smarter people than me will write about how we got here, but one thing that’s striking about the university protests is the absence of an actual peace movement. There are pro-Israel and pro-Palestine groups, but what you don’t see is a broad movement for a full ceasefire, more…

This Passover, we are dreaming of collective liberation. A future beyond war, occupation, death, destruction and captivity. We hope that by next Passover we will be closer to that future, and that it will truly be a happy Passover: a celebration of freedom for all.

Two things are true at the same time:

There is a real antisemitism problem on certain college campuses.

AND some are exploiting it to fear-monger, smear entire institutions & groups, and advance their own agendas.

Campus Hillels are often the most grounded source of info ⬇️

We’re glad to see Department of State taking seriously the threat presented by Gopstein & Lehava. T’ruah’s sounded the alarm for years about Lehava, urging IRS to investigate U.S. foundations funneling $ to West Bank extremists.

Stopping settler violence requires stopping the flow of $.

One of my memorable experiences at Columbia was a walking tour by Prof Jim Shenton z'l including stories (in colorful language) of getting arrested (& beaten by police) as a young professor in 1968. Protest has long been & should continue to be part of campus culture. (1/5)
