Academic decision algorithm v 7.0- a testament to #SocialMedia peer review, as all versions past 1.0 were improved upon by feedback from colleagues on Twitter. This edition improved by J Randall Curtis. There is a descriptive publication here somewhere... #MedEd #MedTwitter

2/ 3. Never assume that learners know the basics - ask them - if they do not know say something like: "Great, so glad I asked because I really want you to know/learn this" 4. Repetition works 5. Share your thought process - that helps learners more that giving them long lists.

1/5 A middle-aged man walks into your clinic complaining of weakness. You take a moment to observe his gait. What do you notice? This should generate a hypothesis.

Have you ever wondered where SOAP notes come from? Do you wonder why we spend SO MUCH time at the computer, instead of with our patients? Do you worry that we way we document warps our diagnostic thinking? Then see you at BIDMC Gen Med Grand Rounds tomorrow!

1/8 You are rotating on the Procedure Service and your team is asked to perform a routine "therapeutic" paracentesis on a patient with cancer. You walk into the room to meet the patient and this is what you see. This finding should generate a hypothesis.

At the end of my career, I will not care at all what my h-index is or how many papers I published. However, I will care tremendously whether I was a good mentor and had a positive impact on the lives of others. I want to live those values every day from now until then.

Just came back on twitter to say I love how insurance companies won’t approve a buprenorphine prescription until my patient tries a fentanyl patch first.

Teaching IS NOT Delivering a package to the learner. Even if it's of the highest quality, delivering something to their doorstop falls short. Teaching is a 3-legged race...

1/6 This patient presents for evaluation after family noticed he’s been “slowing down” recently. We walk in to meet him. How old do you think he is? Perhaps there is already a clue to the underlying diagnosis.

We live in a world with a lot of eGFR equations. Calculating them all shows how much variability you can have. I don't worry too much about eGFR of 40, but 23 gets my attention.

#UncleBob "hot take" - just finished 2 weeks on wards. From talking with learners, I postulate that we focus too much on summative feedback and not enough on formative feedback. Our biggest flaw is the lack of immediate positive feedback. #MedEd Rabih Geha @DxRxEdu Opinions?
