I’m not sure what year this photo of Southampton Docks was taken, but in the background you can see Solent Flour Mills, built by Rank Hovis in 1934. Sadly, this impressive Art Deco building is currently in the process of being demolished...

#OnThisDay in 1965, Frederick Fleet died at 8 Norman Road, Southampton. As a lookout on Titanic, Fleet was the first to see the iceberg on that fateful night in 1912. He rang the bell, phoned the bridge, and told them: “Iceberg, right ahead.” He is buried in Holybrook Cemetery.

The #Titanic Memorial Lighthouse is a national memorial to the dead, like the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, a monument to its 1,496 victims, yet sadly neglected for 53 years. We are committed to restoring the memorial in the lifetimes of the descendants allowing them a place to remember. #NYC
