I started out programming mostly in assembly, then switched to mostly C. I tend to like the freedom of getting performance when I need it. Turns out it's also green. hackaday.com/2021/11/18/c-i…

Comanche 4 appears in the 2003 Tomb Raider 2 movie. In the movie, a character learns to fly a real helicopter by playing it. I knew the production team had asked to use the game, I had no idea it would be a plot point.

As a technology addict, I hate when cool stuff stalls out or goes away. Home Theater PCs are basically dead. Intel dropped support for 4K discs with the 11th gen CPU and NVidia dropped 3D support with the RTX 3000 series. Blu-Ray never did a 4K 3D spec. Lame.

I pushed Delta Force as a way to diversify. Before that, Novalogic was known mostly for flight sims and I feared the flight stick was dying off as a gamer accessory. Gotta work with the hardware.

A home theater aside, NVidia's RTX Video Super Resolution really sharpens up old DVDs. This is handy since not everything has been released on newer media or is available to stream. Supposedly it also sharpens up streaming, but it's a bit hard to control.

Walt Disney coined the term wienie for the thing that excites you and draws you forward. Walt loved hot dogs. That design criteria also works for games. Recently Disneyland added a store that blocks views of two wienies. I'd call it a wienie blocker.

When I was a kid the local Bunko Squad came to my school to talk about scams. We saw a movie of common scams. Don't know why I thought about that while going through my email. I miss the Bunko Squad.

Once cache was introduced, data wants to be stored by use, not by objects, not in structures. This makes an object oriented program up to 10x slower that it needs to be.

I spent my school years doing Apple ][ games and biotech. I wrote the software that drove this machine which could gene sequence, find abnormal cells, create print outs that looked like Joy Division, and other fun stuff.

Humans living anywhere but earth will likely need resistance to radiation and lower gravity. Nature has solutions, we just need to GM ourselves to get it. Baring physics breakthroughs it's the only practical solution. Terraforming alone won't cut it.

My first exposure to a Windows like interface was a demo of the Apple Lisa computer. The demo was short, the guy dropped the OS folder into the trash to show it could be recovered, but it bricked the system.

I keep comparing AI against expert systems and hand tuned fuzzy logic I've previously used. AI is superior in image and audio, but it's still worse where data is limited, or you can make physical or logical assumptions it can't infer, or you need to know when you don't know.
