I didn't mind it being a reference-fest, I had a great time watching the movie! Though it's a shame The Super Mario Galaxy Movie had to officially reveal *THAT* just a week before release :(, cinema reaction would've been INSANE. Still glad that there were some other unspoiled surprises!
