“Do not make us look like thugs. We are here to defend our people,” a speaker says. She’s a DJ who identifies herself as Mexican, black and Irish. Encourages crowd - if you see someone fall, pick them up. Hands up. stay together.

“I have been grieving my entire life,” speaker says in front of crowd of hundreds outside police HQ. Says: we learned looting from people who stole land from indigineous folks. “Stop killing us.”

Freedom of the press is a central tenet of democracy, as is the right to peaceful protest. Local journalist, Kristen Graham was arrested for walking to her car past curfew despite wearing her press badge. This is an abuse of power.
