Switzerland will soon require stores to label products from animals subject to painful mutilations without pain relief. Prediction: this will lead industry to end the cruel practices, as they know they can't justify them to informed consumers. I hope other nations copy this.

Texas just passed a law to require warning labels on foods with potentially toxic additives. Incredibly, the law excludes all meat products and additives. So bleached flour will have a warning label, but chlorinated chicken and ractopamine-fed pork will not.

I'm not sure I have two beliefs about tech stronger than 1. Social media broke the world, and 2. AI will too, but, like, bigger and stories like this are not helping to change my mind. x.com/CartoonsHateHe…

Cloudflare’s move to block web sites from AI crawlers by default sounds good to content factories like newspapers, but I suspect for most authors on the web the first thing you should do is deactivate it. If the models are blind to you then you effectively don’t exist.

"They don't understand because they're a game developer" is total nonsense. Games are a superset domain. We make editors, servers, databases, build systems, large asset management, etc. If anything, if you're going to dismiss someone, dismiss people who haven't worked on games.

Slovenia will ban both cages for hens and the castration of piglets without pain relief! Their National Assembly overrode fierce industry lobbying and a Council veto to pass the law. Our politicians could learn from the political courage of these Slovenian MPs.

This is why donating to animal welfare has such high return on investment. And why I pledged to donate 10% of my income to it.

As of 2025 AI generated content at work is like an IQ test. If you create and ship slop because you think you can get away with it or you don’t know any better you’re just telling on yourself.

Self-driving cars are like the new weight loss drugs Their value is so large, so obvious, and so scalable, that we can confidently predict their triumph regardless of knee-jerk cultural resistance and their wildly exaggerated downsides.

This year, a Georgia court sentenced a man who abused 107 dogs to 475 years in prison. Also, this year, US factory farms confined over 70 million pigs in equally abusive conditions. None were prosecuted. Imagine if we enforced our anti-cruelty laws against all animal cruelty.

The UN, WEF, and World Bank are promoting a “Blue Revolution” to spread industrial fish farms in Asia and Africa. At high-minded conferences, they pitch it as a blueprint for a sustainable future. In practice, it looks like this.

We also need to present people with less cruel animal protein options. There are two ways to identify these: by species or conditions. Counterintuitively, the choice of species likely matters more. Some species suffer for much longer to produce a serving of protein.
