There's a test closure of the #ThamesBarrier tomorrow, on the 40th anniversary of the official opening. This will be earlier than normal test closures, with gates starting to move at around 07.55, and they'll be fully open by 10.25. x.com/AlanBarrierEA/…

40 years ago today the Thames Barrier was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To this day, it stands proudly as a testament to our commitment to protect people and properties from flooding. Join us in wishing the Barrier a happy 40th anniversary!🎉 gov.uk/government/new…

Happy #LeftHandersDay! Rumour has it that during the construction of the #ThamesBarrier in the 1970s & 80s, there was a demand for left handed engineers due the unique design of the piers. There were some jobs where space was so tight, only a left handed person could do it.
