This week we remembered all who have been affected by war. Class 5M created their own calligram. I'm sure you will agree they are beautiful.

Yesterday Year 2 visited the cenotaph memorial near our school. The children have been learning all about Remembrance Day and why it is important. When we were there, we wrote and read out some of our prayers that we did in school and left crosses/poppies for those who had died.

This week, Year 3 have been working hard using base 10 and place value counters to add and subtract 3 digit numbers where they have had to do exchanges when crossing the 10's and 100's boundary. Well done, Year 3! 🧮

In Class 6K, in History, we learnt about the hierarchy in the Maya civilisation. As a group, we created a hierarchy pyramid and added in detail about each 'level' and then presented our work to the whole class as a group - amazing teamwork and presentation skills.

Reception have been learning about 4 & 5 in Maths. We have sorted objects into groups of 4 & 5. As part of our learning about the little red hen, we looked at the ingredients to make bread. We taste tested different types of bread & then followed a recipe for bread hedgehogs.

A beautiful Collective Worship planned and led independently and so confidently and reverently by one of our Year 3 pupils. We used this to reflect and make links between the ways that we Gather for Collective Worship and the celebration of mass.

In Religion this week, we have been learning about the parts of the mass and focusing on the Liturgy of the Word. Eucharistic and Liturgical minister Mr Jordan came in to discuss his roles and the children asked lots of great questions about his ministry.

On Saturday, quite a few brave souls ran in treacherous conditions in the 3rd race meeting of the year. Times were never going to be our best of the year in the swampy conditions but the determination that the children showed to finish was admirable.

Yesterday Year 2 spent the day going back in time to 1666 to learn all about the Great Fire of London. First we built traditional walls from the time using wattle and daub and discussed how this method lead to the fire spreading quicker. Then we built some alternative houses.

On Monday, we were visited by a local author called Sean Perkins. We listened in assembly to his amazing book 'Oscar and Ben' and we loved seeing the characters come to life. Sean also played the guitar and sang to the school about his book!

In our history lesson this week, we have found out about why cacao was so important to The Maya. They did not just use it for a delicious hot chocolate drink; they believed the making and drinking of it to be a sacred ritual which connected them to their God.

The Maya mask making has begun and Mrs Kendry has been so impressed with the results so far! The children have shown real skills blending and attaching clay feathers, clay headdresses and even clay teeth! Our criteria was to make our masks intimidating - just like the Maya did!
