#SomethingNew to our archive is this 'Cartographic History of Hampshire' which was donated by the housemistress of St Swithun's Hyde Abbey in the 1980s. It came to the school archive two weeks ago and we love it! #IAD2021 #IAW2021 ARA Scotland #StSwithunsboarding
Our lovely school building which opened in 1929 is #SomethingBig and this is the largest photograph we have in our collection so thought to combine the two! #IAD2021 #IAW2021 ARA Scotland
#SomethingUnusual is the story of a burglary 🚨recorded in the Swithun's School Earlsdown House diary in 1910. Richard Allen whilst barefoot, stole 29 silver spoons, a teapot, a box of stamps and other items which he stashed in a haystack on Morn Hill. #IAD2021 #IAW2021 ARA Scotland
Struggled to find #SomethingHairy until our volunteer Sam found an unusual entry in the list of gifts he is transcribing. In 1979 a pupil's family donated a fleece to the school from their flock of sheep 🐑Fantastic! #IAD2021 #IAW2021 #sheep ARA Scotland
#SomethingFun is this fantastic footage of the #diving team performing at an open day in the 1960s. #Throwback to when we had an outdoor swimming pool. 🏊♀️ #IAD2021 #IAW2021 ARA Scotland
We have a letter from the infamous Sobieski Stuarts who claimed to be direct heirs of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the C19th. Their claim has always been disputed and their book on Clan tartan patterns considered dubious. #IAD2021 #SomethingScottish #IAW2021 ARA Scotland
Thank you ARA Scotland for a fantastic day of tweeting for #IAW2021. We've had a 🐳 of a time with the 'Something' theme! #IAD2021
Super great day! Attended our first ever School Archives and Records Association conference and spent the afternoon helping @StSwithunsEng #Alevel pupils choose records from our collection for a project about using context & culture in their approach to literature. #SchoolEnglish #FromTheArchives
Excited is an understatement when we found out our 'Exploring St. Swithun's tour' for the Winchester Heritage Open Days was fully booked! Can't wait to show the public our fabulous archive collection and reveal more about our history. St Swithun's School #HODs
We thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Winchester Heritage Open Days this year. So excited to tour the public round the school and show off our fantastic archive collection and fascinating heritage. Thanks to all who came! Don't forget to check out more #HOD events in Winchester.
After seeing an old photo re-enacted by Fettes College & Fettes Prep for its 150th anniversary, St Swithun's Archives challenged St Swithun's School & staff to recreate photos from its own archive. Jane Gandee & Reverend Paul Wallington recreated this picture of our school founders from 1896!
Signing off as the Archivist for St Swithun's School today 😞. My time with the project has come to an end BUT look out for more tweets because we're not done yet! We've still got loads more to share about our fabulous history.
