✨Prothonotary warbler✨ That’s a big word for Elmo! This bright yellow cavity nester can be found in wet deciduous forests. When not tending to their nest they’re often in the understory. You may even spot or hear one in the mangroves! 📷: Kara Cook | Calendar photo contest

Mangrove cuckoos are pretty hardcore 🤘 When this species catches large prey, they often will tenderize it on tree branches. Otherwise they can be found sitting still for long periods of time. 📷: Kevin Christman | SPAS 2022 calendar photo contest entry

POV: You’re at your favorite birding spot taking in all the sounds, smells or sights. The birds are calling, plants swaying in the wind and you take a deep breath 🌱

This bird knows all about reducing, reusing and recycling ♻️ The blue-gray gnatcatcher, also known as the “little mockingbird”, can build up to seven nests in a breeding season! They’ll often use material from a previous nest to rebuild a new one. 📷: Lynn Wiezycki
