When God took Eve from Adam, he did not take her from his head to Lord it over him nor from his foot to be walked upon by him. He took her from his side, to walk with him, from beneath his arm, to be guarded by him, and from his heart to be loved by him.

The word used for Eve when she was created was a word meaning ‘Helper’. This noun (עֵזֶר, ʿēzer) appears 21× in the Hebrew Bible - 19 of those times are in reference to God. So Eve is not Adam’s “helper” in a lowly way, but from context in a highly honorable way.

Satan is called a Leviathan in Genesis. Yet he doesn’t challenge God’s existence or authority, just his trustworthiness. He wants you to wonder - Will you choose to belong to him or will you take your life into your own hands? - hoping you’ll see belonging to God as undesirable.

“Who told you that you are naked? Have you eaten of the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?” These are the words of a heartbroken Father. The serpent is cursed. However Adam and Eve are given REMEDIES-for having failed to choose love, and see that Love requires sacrifice.

What am I offering God? Do I offer him the best like Abel? Or what’s convenient, like Cain? It wasn’t that Cain’s sacrifice wasn’t important to God, it’s that it wasn’t important to Cain.

God said to Cain: “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.” It is our job to MASTER overcoming sin, because temptations WILL happen, but we don’t have to give in.

Today let’s ask God, “How do you want me to walk with you today?” And let’s each of us ask ourselves - “How am I going to cling to Him so that even amidst the storms of life and the floods that come, He can continue to lift me up?”

There’s something really powerful about the rainbow - shaped as an Archers bow, NOT to be used for war. NOT to be used for destruction or death. It is God is setting down his bow and saying that He will no longer, never ever again, destroy the Earth by a flood. His covenant. 🌈🏹

In building the Tower of Babel, the problem was not that the people wanted to build a huge tower. The problem was that in building it they were saying “let us make a name for OURSELVES”. Acting as if there is no need to trust in God…just as Satan had said to Eve.

When we do not pursue being the Saints we are called to be, then there is something unsettled in us. We will find ourselves pursuing and chasing after things that are either meaningless or for the wrong reasons, and all for our own glory instead of for the glory of God.

We see the standard we are meant to strive for in life in the story of Job. Job's instinctive reaction to suffering was to worship and say “Naked I came forth from my mother's room naked, I shall return. The Lord gives and he takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
