Barnabas looked up, surprise on his face as he saw Cid. But quickly it changed back to a neutral expression. "I was." He turned towards his food again, hoping it was just a hallucination that will disappear soon.

"I did. I know I took my last breath." Barnabas wasn't looking at Cid either. Though he did it mostly because of shame. The mention of Ultima cause a barely noticeable flinch in him. "Then I woke up by the shore of Ash. It was a different season than I last remembered."

The once-king did lose weight since he 'woke up', having to depend on whatever he could hunt, cook and buy. And coin was hard to come by even with his skill with sword. "I am telling you what I know and remember. My body was turning to dust once I didn't have Odin..."

Barnabas also decided that it's better not to think too much about his survival. "Trying to make ends meet by being a sellsword. Someone always wants a man with good swordsmanship." Though by the state of his clothes you can tell it doesn't bring that much coin.
