We oppose the death penalty in all circumstances as it's a cruel, inhumane, and degrading punishment. The death penalty only kills people, not crime, but change is possible...

When Amnesty International started our death penalty work in 1977, only 16 countries had totally abolished the death penalty. At the end of 2023, 112 countries were fully abolitionist and 144 had abolished the death penalty in law or practice. The USA needs to catch up.

Civilians always pay the price during conflict. The warring parties must do more to protect civilians and respect international humanitarian law.
