A student sent me a virtual hug for me tonight, saying she would be there for me if I needed anything in a wake of the senseless killings in GA. She reminded me the power of deep care and love for each other that can make us better. I have the best job, ever. Southridge High

Went into a physics class as a “in-person” learner while the teacher taught virtually so he could practice hybrid teaching. I never taught in hybrid so I can’t share my experience but can support my teachers by partnering w/ them to help identify pitfalls and successes.

2 things made my heart happier: our link crew leaders (class of 2021!) came in to the building to get ready for our freshmen orientation day. Then I got to hear our amazing choir students share their talent at the outdoor concert. Our students keep me centered! Southridge High

Got to interview amazing seniors for a scholarship for students of color to pursue teaching as profession. If learning is relevant and grounded in love and care, students WILL consider teaching as a career. Wanna diversify teacher workforce? Let’s start in the classroom now.

Virtual philosophical chairs in action on Jamboard! Scholars picked sides: students have influence over the policies adopted by their school policies. They shared lots of great thinking and ideas. Sometimes we just have to get out of the way and listen to our students.

The scholar I had to suspend for fighting has been checking in with me every morning. I called his dad to say what a responsible young man he is. Not sure if I’m doing it right but it feels right to do “discipline” with empathy.

When your student asks you to be her twin for the twin day for spirit week, you never turn it down; instead you have fun with it!

Had a rough day as I attended a service for one of the students we lost. I came back to my office and found this from a student I suspended 2x this year. It lifted me up and reminded me that I, too, need to do better about listening to their stories.

After a challenging year, receiving a love message like this from a student reminds me why we, educators, do what we do every day, no matter how hard things may be. I am grateful for this amazing opportunity to serve Southridge High

Thank you Southridge High choirs for filling my cup tonight. Your heartfelt performance of songs from around the world truly exemplified what it means to be IB scholars. I am so lucky to get to do my job!

Kudos to our band program! Jazz band, concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble warmed up my heart this evening. We had a student conducting for the first time; she wants to be a band teacher! Southridge High

Got to chaperone a field trip to the portland art museum and a few art galleries with our incredibly talented IB art students. It sure filled my heart to be able to spend a day with this group of amazing human beings. Thank you for being my “why” 💕

AVID class of 2023! I came to Southridge High when these scholars were freshmen. Their high school journey hasn’t been easy with the global pandemic but they not only survived but thrived! They are ready to sore, and I am so proud of you!
