OD: acronym for Organisational Development. This is the function &/or capabilities in an organisation to improve the efficiency & effectiveness of how that organisation functions day-to-day. Organisations often buy-in these services if they do not have the skills. #LDInsight

L&D: acronym for Learning & Development. The function &/or capabilities in an organisation to set and implement strategies for how people in the organisation learn & develop the capabilities that the organisation needs to fulfil its mission & ongoing stated strategy. #LDInsight

I simplistically characterise OD as the macro view of developing an organisation's capability + seeing the organisation as an integrated system & L&D as the micro view of developing the individuals within an organisation. #LDInsight

OD/L&D services may be delivered by employees or contractors within an org or by third party service providers. There are pros & cons for each varying from 100% internal to 100% external & splits of both. Ideally, in my view, orgs need a lot of this capability in-house #LDInsight

As with "HR", "OD" and "L&D" are terms that have unique meanings & implementation in every organisation so you need to understand the scope of these services on an org by org basis. Ditto for what external service providers deliver. #LDInsight
