Many first-year medical interns have new-onset depressive symptoms identified via positive screening; these new symptoms persisted after completion of training at a level more than 3x higher than their counterparts without depression, this study finds. ja.ma/3VHlzaG

3/ ≠ trends: The % of female matriculants to high-compensation surgical specialties steadily increased from 28.8% in 2008 to 42.4% in 2022! Non-surgical specialties didn’t see significant changes (38.7% in 2022), & the % of female applicants to non-surgical specialties decreased
