An interesting thing about us humans: we're pattern learners more so than pattern unlearners. For instance: โ€ข When we strongly believe that A leads to B, we resist counter-evidence โ€ข Once we learn how to do an action (e.g., throw a ball) it's hard to change our form

Humans are funny: we often observe patterns in random things (like faces in clouds) and yet don't take them seriously. But, if our social group believes that something random is meaningful, most of us will find meaning in it (and deny its randomness) until the grave.

Are you a man or a woman? And, if youโ€™re at a restaurant waiting for the bathroom and the 1 for the opposite gender is free (itโ€™s empty and only for 1 person), and youโ€™ve been waiting for your genderโ€™s one for 5 minutes, do you just use the bathroom of the opposite gender?

A question for you: what's the best question you ask (or the best approach you have) to get into an interesting conversation (and avoid small talk) with someone you've just met?
