What exactly is the Northern Lights? The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. They are known as "Aurora borealis" in the north and "Aurora australis" in the south.

Airplane-size asteroid to fly close to Earth - Orbit animation! Asteroid 2011 ES4 will fly "about 45,000 miles (792,000 football fields) away" from Earth on Sept. 1, 2020, according to NASA. It poses no threat to our planet.
