Labour productivity is not distributed evenly across all firms in the economy: in 2021, 70.6% of workers in the UK worked in firms with labour productivity below the mean. ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/econom…

The spread between the more productive firms and the median firm has increased: in 2021, workers in firms at the 90th percentile had output 3.68 times greater than workers at the median firm, up from 3.16 times more in 1997.

Business dynamism, which is typically measured by the rate at which jobs are created and destroyed, has slowed since 2008: the ‘reallocation rate’, a measure of how many jobs are either created or lost, fell from 30.7% in 2001 to 20.6% in 2022. ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/econom…
