Nearly 10% of survivors who report sexual violence to their school will drop out. This is known as ‘constructive expulsion.’ Simply put, it means that even though a school didn’t formally dismiss a student, they made it impossible for them to stay.

For so many survivors, having their perpetrator removed from school isn’t about punishment—it’s an accommodation to ensure they can stay in school. That’s because it can be impossible to learn if you’re constantly fearing encountering your rapist.
