"Teamwork has traditionally played a critical role in schools, and while many of us find ourselves physically isolated, our collaborative work with one another may be more important now than ever" writes Zachary Herrmann of Penn GSE. edutopia.org/article/4-guid…

Enjoyed using Google Meets to provide my students with direct instruction yesterday. We started our morning by talking about the pits and peaks of our week. It is so important to check in with students daily, especially during these difficult times #remotelearning

Whether students are remote or in school, we need to encourage as much physical activity as possible. Physical activity helps reduce stress, anxiety, and helps improve self regulation, focus, and on task behaviors. Its as important as any subject!

Class 401 had a live virtual trip to the Queens Zoo. We loved learning about the animals habitats and ecosystems. We enjoyed seeing a chinchilla and drawing our own ecosystems. This was a perfect ending to our animal research unit! We were glad we got to go on a virtual trip!

My students have been working so hard lately! Going back and forth between remote and in-person learning takes a lot of organization and flexibility. Keeping motivation has been difficult for them so this week we started giving out homework passes which has definitely helped!

One of my students benefits from a reward system to keep her motivated and on task. I have enjoyed creating personalized reward systems using technology. She loves picking out the theme and the animals she will work towards. It is so important to review expectations each day.

Class 401 had such a wonderful time participating in another virtual field trip! Today we visited the Intrepid Museum. It was an amazing opportunity since we normally would not be able to visit this museum in person. We are making the most of virtual learning everyday!

This week I welcomed a new class of 4th graders. After a year and a half of teaching on a computer, I could not be more thrilled to have my students back in person. Although we made the most of virtual learning, there is nothing like helping a student succeed face to face.

This year I had the wonderful opportunity of revamping our curriculum in order to align it with the CRSE Framework. I am looking forward to providing my students with a culturally responsive curriculum and helping them to develop into more accepting individuals in society.

Tomorrow 401 will begin to get ready to dive into our first book of the school year! We are starting with a nonfiction Native American text but first it’s important we understand the difference between fiction and nonfiction.

Enjoyed attending this wonderful professional training! Mark Weakland provided me with so many strategies to assist my student with dyslexia as well as my students who have difficulty reading. I am looking forward to implementing the strategies learned into my own classroom!

I recently began implementing Vocabulary Word Ladders! They are so effective in assisting students in meaningful vocabulary instruction. I encourage my students to sketch a picture next to each word to aide in their understanding of each term. Great for all readers!
