How does the angle that the Sun’s rays hit the Earth’s surface influence the temperature? SILSA Asheville City Schools Honors EES students are finding out…maybe. Not all models work perfectly. #imperfectscience

It’s that time of year again…the crisp fall air surrounds Asheville City Schools SILSA and the smell of pickled beets is in Room 103. Surface Area to Volume ratio is key to understanding how efficient diffusion is related to cell size.

#apbio students from SILSA Asheville City Schools getting their osmosis on. The age-old eggsperiment! Kids used vinegar to dissolve the shell and then watched it swell and shrink when placed in different solutions. Gross? A bit. Educational? Oh yeah!

A great two days in #APES SILSA Asheville City Schools as the students heard from N.C. DEQ air quality expert Keith Bamberger. Students heard about isoprene and its connection to indigenous culture and the history of our region. We also made tons of models of our air! Thanks Keith!

Congrats Dr. Ethan Lenker! I know they don’t base this award on quality of golf swing! 😂😂 Just proves you’re working for the people of Pitt County instead of on your golf game. Congrats!

The longer I spend in NC education the more the NC TOY program seems to be a retention-by-flattery program: not designed to celebrate a teacher, but rather to fool young teachers into sticking around with accolades instead of decent wages.

Liberty Christian School in Durham NC got nearly $1m in public voucher funding this year. This school reserves the right to expel students who dance or listen to "inappropriate" music at home. The public should not be funding institutions with these control issues. #ncpol #nced
