The Pagosa District will be burning 45 acres of piles today at Quartz Creek. These hand-built piles are a result of shaded fuel break construction along Forest Road 684 during the 2023 Quartz Ridge Fire. Smoke may be visible from the town of Pagosa Springs and the US 84 corridor.

The Dolores District of the #SanJuanNF will be burning piles today, January 29, on Haycamp Mesa. 750 Ponderosa pine and Gambel oak slash piles will be burned in a timber contract area along Forest Service Roads 556, 556.D, and 492. Smoke may be visible from Highway 184 and 145.

The Pagosa Ranger District continues pile burning operations today. Fire managers will burn 45 acres of piles on January 30 on Eight Mile Mesa. Smoke may be visible from Pagosa Springs and Highway 160 corridor.

The Dolores District will be burning piles Wednesday, February 12, near McPhee Campground. The piles, located on Forest Road 272, will be visible from Highway 184. Fire crews will be present throughout the shift and will extinguish any remaining heat by day's end.

The Columbine Ranger District is planning a 4,150 acre prescribed burn project southeast of Bayfield begining February 24 depending on weather conditions and available resources. Smoke may be visible from Arboles, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, and along the Hwy 160 & 151 corridors.

Prescribed fire ignitions are underway in the Boggy Draw area, about 15 miles northeast of Dolores. Expect to see smoke throughout the day from areas in Montezuma and Dolores Counties. The work may continue tomorrow if needed and if conditions allow. (File photo)

Ignitions are done for the day on the prescribed burn in the Boggy Draw area northeast of Dolores. All firefighters remain in the area, monitoring today’s burn. 1179 acres were completed.

After conducting a test fire this afternoon, it was determined that conditions are too wet for a successful burn and the prescribed fire plan for Haycamp Mesa today, has been postponed.

Red flag warning for tomorrow due to low humidity, high temps and gusty winds from thunderstorms. Storms may produce dry lightning and start new fires. No fires on the forest under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. Do your part and #KnowBeforeYouGo. Thanks.
