Saturday: OHA joined community members at Sandy Lake Park to survey for the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), a threat to our Eastern Hemlocks. 🌲🪲 With support from CFIA, HRM, and NS Invasive Species Council, we learned to identify and prevent HWA. Good news: no HWA was found!

This election, make protected areas part of the conversation ✅️ The EAC has developed a voter toolkit to help you talk to candidates about seven important environmental issues – like better protections for our wild spaces🌲 Get the full toolkit at ecologyaction.ca/provincial-ele…

50+ years of community efforts hang in the balance as development looms. Let’s protect Sandy Lake, safeguard biodiversity, and finish the regional park vision. 🐸🌲 #ProtectNSNature

Celebrating #EarthDay among the ancient giants! 🌲✨ This old growth hemlock stand in the Acadian forest on the shores of Sandy Lake reminds us why we protect and cherish these wild places. Let’s keep our forests and waterways thriving for generations to come! 💚#EarthDay2025

Standing strong on the edge—just like this tree in beautiful Margaretsville, our community is holding on for Sandy Lake. Imagine a watershed where wild salmon still run, just a bus ride from the city—yet its future is threatened by special planning.

At this weekend’s People’s Parade, the Sandy Lake Coalition highlighted why protection matters now more than ever. Development threatens fragile headwaters, wetlands, and wildlife corridors-putting at risk clean water, flood protection, and biodiversity our communities depend on.

72-hour countdown until it's SUMMER! There's a free summer solstice hike this Saturday. The hikes are a great way to learn about the wildlife and plants of the park, and hear about the current threats to the area and what can be done about them. sandylakecoalition.ca/hikes
